Protect your hair this Summer: An excerpt from Hair Yoga

Summer is known for severe heat and heat waves (loo) which bring with it many problems for the hair. Harmful UV rays from the sun, hot temperatures and heat waves damage the haircuticle, making it dry, split, brittle, rough and frizzy. All hair textures can suffer from too much heat. Heat sucks the moisture out of the hair making hair very difficult to manage. The only way to handle your hair in this weather is through protection. Here are some tips to take care of your hair:

Wash hair daily with a gentle shampoo. Use cool to cold water always. Sweating is a common problem during the summers and shampooing is the best thing you can do to keep it sweat free and bouncy.

Use conditioner after shampooing. Apply normal conditioner if your hair is dry, damaged or chemically treated and serum (leave-in conditioner) if it’s fl at or oily. It works like a protective shield and also adds moisture.

Avoid using heated styling tools. If you must use them, then use protecting products before styling.

Keep your hair short. Short haircuts are easy to manage in the summers. Also go for regular haircuts to keep the ends healthy.

Wear a swimming cap to avoid too much contact with chlorinated water during swimming. It protects hair amazingly.

Don’t hang out in the sun without protection. Wear a hat, head scarf or umbrella while in the sun.

Drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated.

Eat lots of green vegetables and fruits.

Homemade Remedies:

Apply a paste of multani mitti or lemon juice to your scalp before washing. It will clean all the sweat and dirt from the scalp and make it healthy.

Massage your hair with lukewarm coconut oil.

You can do it twice a week. Take lukewarm oil, massage your scalp with it using your fingertips and leave it for some time before washing your hair. You can also use a steam towel to cover your hair for about 10 minutes.

Take a deep conditioning product and apply it to your hair avoiding the scalp carefully. Then comb through your hair gently with a wide tooth comb. Wrap a steam towel around your hair.

Now leave it in it for as long as you want and then wash it off with cold water. You can also get it done professionally in a salon if you want.

Apply curd with fenugreek seeds powder (methi dana) to your hair and leave it for some time before washing. It will make your hair healthy and moist.

Use an anti-dandruff shampoo in your hair once in a week only if you get dandruff in this season.

It makes hair dry so avoid frequent use.
