One of the world’s most powerful and influential women, Oprah Winfrey is a self-confessed fan of the erotic romance. She has absolutely no qualms of reading the trilogy and says, “’I have downloaded all the Fifty Shades of Grey novels and for the first time I can take some guilty pleasure and just read. But I’m thinking, stop with the story, get to the juicy part.” And if Oprah Winfrey likes it, who are we to complain?

  • The enormity of sales

The Fifty Shades trilogy has sold over a staggering 100 million copies worldwide and has overtaken with ease, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and The Da Vinci Code as the best-selling books in Britain. This phenomenon just keeps on getting bigger and better!

  • The Twilight connect

Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey are based on the iconic characters, Bella Swan and Edward Cullen of Twilight fame. Fifty Shades of Grey was first written as a work of fan faction on and was titled ‘Masters of the Universe’. Because of the highly sexual nature of the story, E.L. James was forced to take the story down from the site and she then re-posted it on her own website, She edited the story, made it longer, and re-worked on it as an original piece, thus avoiding any references to Twilight. A story that took off from another global sensation, Fifty Shades of Grey had success written all over it from the very beginning.
